Moped rider, 68, dies from injuries after crashing into another moped in Kaimuki
A 68-year-old moped rider has died from injuries he sustained in Saturday’s crash with another moped in Kaimuki.
The collision occurred on Alohea Avenue near Francis Street just after 10:05 p.m.
Police said a Honda moped rear-ended a blue Zhong moped operated by a 59-year-old man traveling westbound on Alohea Avenue.
The Honda moped rider was taken in critical condition to a hospital where he died Sunday. His name has yet to be released by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Zhong moped rider was taken in serious but stable condition to a hospital.
Both riders were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash, police said.
Speed, drugs or alcohol were not involved.
This is the 29th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared with 28 at the same time last year.
