A 68-year-old moped rider has died from injuries he sustained in Saturday night’s crash with another moped on Alohea Avenue in Kaimuki. His identity has not yet been released by the Honolulu Medical Examiner.
A 68-year-old moped rider has died from injuries he sustained in Saturday’s crash with another moped in Kaimuki.
The collision occurred on Alohea Avenue near Francis Street just after 10:05 p.m.
Police said a Honda moped rear-ended a blue Zhong moped operated by a 59-year-old man traveling westbound on Alohea Avenue.
The Honda moped rider was taken in critical condition to a hospital where he died Sunday. His name has yet to be released by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Zhong moped rider was taken in serious but stable condition to a hospital.
Both riders were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash, police said.
Speed, drugs or alcohol were not involved.
This is the 29th traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared with 28 at the same time last year.
