The Maui Fire Department said the incident took place around 4:40 p.m. Friday in the area of the Kaanapali Beach Club.
A part of a coconut tree in the Kaanapali area on Maui broke off and fell on a woman visiting from California.
The Maui Fire Department said the incident took place around 4:40 p.m. Friday in the area of the Kaanapali Beach Club. The top 20 feet of an 80-foot coconut fell onto the 45-year-old victim, causing multiple injuries.
She suffered a compound fracture to her upper left arm and broken fingers on her right hand. She also had pain and tenderness to her upper and lower back.
It’s not clear why part of the tree fell. MFD was not immediately available for comment.
