Police arrest teen for allegedly beating family member to death in Makaha

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder after he allegedly beat a 38-year-old female family member to death in the middle of Farrington Highway in Makaha Tuesday night, Honolulu police said.

At 11:40 p.m. officers responding to a witness report of the beating found the woman unresponsive in the roadway, according to police.

Emergency Medical Services workers tried to resuscitate her but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 12:06 a.m., according to police.

The woman suffered severe facial injuries and has yet to be identified, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner.

Police found 19-year-old Joshua N. McPeek and arrested him on suspicion of murder at 12:17 a.m. at 84-0570 Farrington Highway.

He remains in custody pending investigation. It is McPeek’s first arrest as an adult, but he has a juvenile record, according to police.

The woman and the man are related and the killing was not a random act, according to police. Witnesses told officers that the pair were seen arguing earlier in the evening.
