Stats are great, because they can help quantify human behavior, show patterns and maybe even inform policymaking.
That’s why it’s cool seeing that a new tourism data tool found that 20 of the top 30 Hawaii points of interest, based on cellphones’ geolocation, were visited by residents, not tourists. Kalakaua Avenue was the top visited spot, with residents being 56% of those going there, versus 44% being visitors from out of state. Given Waikiki’s many workers, perhaps not too surprisingly. But maybe drilling down further could offer more context on what the cool numbers actually mean.
