Four individual titles over two days powered the University of Hawaii track and field team to a third-place finish in the women’s standings at the Big West championships, which concluded Saturday in Fullerton, Calif.
UH sprinter Alyssa Mae Antolin, competing in four events, successfully defended her 200-meter dash title in a time of 23.44 seconds. She also finished fifth in the 100 meters and ran the anchor leg to help UH’s 4×400 relay team place third. She also ran for UH’s sixth-place 4×100 relay team.
The Wahine posted a 1-2 finish in the triple jump, with freshman Tara Wyllie claiming the title with a distance of 41 feet, 1/4 inches. Sophomore Caitlin Simmons followed with a jump of 40-11 3/4.
Sophomore Lilian Turban won the high jump title Friday and placed third in the javelin Saturday with a personal best of 148-3. Sophomore Jessica Mackenzie came in fourth at 140-2.
UH junior Montserrat Montanes I Arbo opened the weekend by winning the hammer throw Friday. Her throw of 190-6 was nearly 12 feet farther than the second-place finisher and was the second-longest in program history.
Long Beach State won the women’s team championship with 149 points. Cal State Fullerton edged LBSU by two points (184.5-182.5) for the men’s title.
