                                A tour of the Battery Birkhimer, the state’s emergency operations center located inside Diamond Head Crater, was held Friday. The facility, which was once a bunker, is in disrepair and is too small and antiquated for emergency operations, according to officials leading the tour.

State senators arranged for the media to tour two important state centers in need of modernizing Friday as a way to tout the need for the controversial and costly “First Responder Technology Campus” in Mililani. Read more
