Hawaii no longer has the lowest unemployment rate in the nation. Iowa, which was tied for first with Hawaii in November at 2.4 percent, held that level last month while Hawaii ticked up one-tenth of a point to 2.5 percent to move into a second-place tie with New Hampshire, according to December data released on all the states Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Tesla to cut 3,000 jobs in bid to sell Model 3
Tesla will reduce its full-time workforce by 7 percent, or more than 3,000, in an effort to lower the cost of producing its Model 3 sedan and make it a mass-market vehicle, Elon Musk, the electric-car maker’s chief executive, told employees Friday.
The least expensive version of the Model 3 now available costs $44,000. Musk said in a companywide email that he wanted the lowest-priced Model 3 to sell for $35,000.

>> Darryl Grace is the new chief pilot and general manager of Makani Kai Air, a subsidiary of Schuman Aviation Co. Grace previously served as a director of operations, chief pilot as well as general manager of Mokulele Airlines.
>> Doug Froning has been promoted to general manager of Magnum Helicopters, a subsidiary of Schuman Aviation Co. He was hired by Schuman in March 2015 and one year later became chief helicopter pilot. Froning previously flew medevac missions for Evergreen Aviation for seven years.
