The Hawaiian Humane Society (HHS) advocates for the integration of pets into our daily lives. It supports a bill that would allow Hawaii restaurant owners the option to adopt pet-friendly policies.

I totally disagree with pet-friendly dining. I love animals as much as anyone. I am a huge supporter of the HHS, but pets do not belong in restaurants.

Many people do not regularly take their pets to a vet or keep them well-groomed. Animals carry fleas and other parasites that can easily pass to humans.

It will open doors for all kinds of pets being allowed in places they do not belong.

I saw an elderly couple with a small dog in a restaurant. Their dog walked, sat and was fed on top of the table. They used dry napkins to brush off the table prior to leaving.

The exception is true service animals. Service animals are well trained and, from what I have seen, well-groomed.
