Seth Lonsway struck out nine and allowed one earned in run in six innings and Ohio State pieced together two big offensive innings for a 7-5 baseball victory over Hawaii today at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
The Rainbow Warriors dropped the first three of this four-game series by a combined five runs, losing 6-4 on Thursday and 6-5 on Friday. Their sixth consecutive loss dropped them to 9-14 entering Sunday’s series finale. The Buckeyes are 14-10.
Dylan Thomas, UH’s best pitcher in multiple roles, made his third start of the season. He cruised through the first three innings, striking out six and throwing strikes on 86.1 percent of his pitches. But Brady Cherry’s second solo homer of the series sparked a three-run fourth for the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes chased Thomas in the fifth, who exited after relinquishing four runs without recording an out in that inning.
Aaron Davenport, who replaced Thomas, struck out eight in four innings of relief.
But the ’Bows failed to overcome a late deficit for the third consecutive game. They stranded nine runners.
