70th Narcissus Queen Pageant at Hawaii Theatre

Sacred Hearts Academy graduate and University of Hawaii student Tiana Wong was crowned the 70th Narcissus Queen at Hawaii Theatre on Saturday night. Wong, who was born in Kailua and is the daughter of Matt and Lei Wong, is double-majoring in biochemistry and dance at UH-Manoa. “Shipwreck’d on the Body Beautiful, or the Tats Dancing Man” is the realization of a quest that began 15 years ago — when local playwright Daniel A. Kelin II first came across the autobiography of James F. O’Connell, a shipwrecked Irishman who washed up on the shores of Pohnpei in the late 1820s. Read more

Kado Baseball Camp with Yasiel Puig at MPI

After a morning hike up Koko Head, Major Legue Baseball player Yasiel Puig spent most of Sunday afternoon on more conventional aspects of baseball at a clinic for players ages 7-12 at Mid-Pacific. Donny Kadokawa, a former Mid-Pacific standout, runs the program and held a similar camp two years ago with Joc Pederson and Corey Seager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. See gallery

Three Kings Day at Hawaii’s Plantation Village

Hawaii’s Puerto Rican community welcomed Christmas lovers on Saturday to El Dia de los Tres Reyes (Three Kings Day), a traditional Latin American holiday that celebrates the day the three kings gave their gifts to baby Jesus. Cultural music and dance by the Latin Amigos and Puerto Rican folkloric dancers provided entertainment, while the first 150 children to the event got gifts and stuffed animals. See gallery
