Hawaii Virtual Career Expo

HONOLULUStar Events and ALTRES Staffing presented Hawaii’s Jobs first virtual Hawaii Career Expo on October 21st and 22. Created in response to pandemic safety guidelines, this re-imagined career fair attracted more than forty employers, one thousand job seekers and allowed the historically Honolulu-based expo to expand statewide for the first time. The Virtual Hawaii Career Expo also coincided with launch of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s new site

Now more than ever, there is a critical need to provide innovative and alternative ways for companies and potential employees to connect. This free event allowed job seekers to visit the virtual booths of many of Hawaii’s leading companies, all looking for qualified hires. Job seekers were able to learn about available jobs, initiate private chats with company recruiters and upload resumes confidentially. US VETS, a Career Expo partner since 2018, hosted Workshops for Veterans. They provided free services for veterans needing assistance with job placement and job training.

“After years of producing smaller community shows as well as two large in-person expos annually, this was our first virtual career fair,” said Denise Ching, Classified Advertising Manager at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. “Hundreds of people were able to connect with dozens of recruiters and HR managers throughout the state with many participants leaving the event with a life-changing career move or hire. We can see moving forward with a combination of live and virtual events in the future.”

“This is the best time for people to consider what other employment options are available,” said Emy Yamauchi-Wong, a certified staffing professional and manager at ALTRES. “Even if you are happy with your current employment situation, it’s always a good idea to keep your options open and learn what companies are hiring for, as well as what the requirements would be in case you consider making a total career change.”

Partnering with Recruitology, a cloud-based recruiting platform that leverages artificial intelligence to help employers hire the right talent quickly and efficiently, Star Events was able to continue offering a platform for job seekers to find a career, not just a job. Recruitology CEO Robert Angulo added “The Hawaii Career Expo is a great example of how good teamwork and strong partnership can result in supporting the community. The candidate registration numbers achieved make this our largest event to date.”

The event ran from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 21 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 22 at It was free for participants and the official Event Guide remains posted on
