It’s a common misconception that you only need to see a chiropractor when you’re already in pain. According to Dr. Aaries Oda, DC of Oda Ohana Chiropractic and Therapeutic Massage, going to the chiropractor is something that can be part of your regular healthy routine, just like going to the dentist.
“You shouldn’t only see a chiropractor after something goes wrong, like having a backache or tight shoulders. Of course, adjustments can help, but we want people to know that receiving regular chiropractic care can actually work to prevent such pains, and help you with overall physical and mental health,” said Dr. Aaries, DC.
At Oda Ohana Chiropractic and Therapeutic Massage, Dr. Aaries, DC and his brother Dr. Paris, DC provide adjustments that help your spine to function at its best. Everyday wear-and-tear on your spine can cause subluxation or misalignments, which often cause pain — but not always. Chiropractic care realigns the spine, which can improve blood pressure, organ function, mental clarity and energy levels. “The idea is, if your spine is working properly, your entire body will as well,” said Dr. Aaries, DC.
Dr. Aaries, DC and his brother have been in the fi eld of chiropractic care for a combined total of 19 years. They have Doctorate of Chiropractic degrees from the Palmer College of Chiropractic, located in San Jose, California, and both are board certified. As chiropractors, they believe a natural, holistic approach will provide patients with better, faster and long-lasting results.
“Often times, our patients are being prescribed traditional medicines that only treat their symptoms, such as fatigue, migraines or back pain. We believe that chiropractic care targets the actual problem, which is almost always spine misalignment,” said Dr. Aaries, DC.
At their practice, the two brothers and their staff also offer therapeutic massage services, including shiatsu, lomi lomi and more, are also available. They also treat auto accidents and work comp injuries. One of the most common cases the Oda brothers treat is pain caused from whiplash. “Symptoms of a whiplash can include pain and stiffness in the neck and muscles of the head, shoulders and arms. Many also experience headaches, general soreness and back pains,” said Dr. Aaries, DC. “The tricky thing is that it can take minutes to four weeks after an accident before symptoms of a whiplash can appear, so after you’ve been in a car accident, it is best to give us a call and come in for a check up to see if there is any damage,” he advised.
For injuries like whiplash, Oda Ohana is one of the first in the state to offer an FDA-approved laser therapy treatment called Laser Procedure. It’s a deep-tissue laser therapy that penetrates a patient’s tissue using a highly technological combination of physics, laser science and engineering. The 25 watts of power make the treatment more efficient and effective than comparable machines on the market.
Here’s how it works: Through a process called photo bio-stimulation, the laser accelerates the recovery process by targeting tissues of the body, such as the nerves, joints and muscles, taking away nerve pressure and removing pain. The laser is administered by either holding the hand-piece above the targeted area, or by pressing the hand-piece directly against the area, whether it is a patient’s back, knee or arm.
The laser machine has proven to be powerful, effective and, most importantly, safe. “A laser machine may sound a little alarming, but it’s actually warm and soothing. We’ve had patients tell us how the machine is very relaxing and makes them want to sleep,” said Dr. Aaries, DC. “It’s a wonderful alternative to surgery, because there is no down time and is risk and pain-free.”
In addition to patients with whiplash, the laser would be ideal for people who suffer from arthritis, and have chronic pain and debilitation pain. Such pain is often caused by slips and falls, failed surgeries, wear-and-tear and new or old sports injuries.
Dr. Aaries, DC also added, “My final advice for patients is to be mindful of your spine. We tend to forget how much stress we are putting on whole body when we slouch at work over a laptop or lift heavy things the wrong way. Small, daily stressors can lead to bigger problems down the road, which is why you should take care of your spine by having good posture and stretching daily.”
