ANAHEIM, CALIF. » The Hawaii women’s basketball team shot lights out to earn a trip to the Big West tournament championship game for the second straight year, defeating Long Beach State 76-60 in the semifinals at the Honda Center today.

UH (20-10) hit a season-high 12 3-pointers, led by senior guard Marissa Wimbley’s six on nine attempts. Wimbley tied the program record for 3-point makes with her career-high 18 points.

The second-seeded Rainbow Wahine take on No. 4 UC Davis (19-12), which upset top-seeded UC Riverside 81-72 in today’s first semifinal. The title game tips off at 1 p.m. Saturday.

UH made it a three-game season sweep of LBSU (24-8). The Wahine had a significant size advantage and dominated the rebounding battle 41-17.

Ashleigh Karaitiana scored 13, and Megan Huff and Sarah Toeaina added 12 apiece for the Wahine.

Olivia Crawford banked in a contested long 2-point shot at the halftime buzzer, and UH took a 36-24 lead at the break.

LBSU drew to within four points on a Raven Benton basket midway through the third quarter. Benton scored a game-high 27 points.

But UH responded with a 3 by Briana Harris, and Wimbley and Karaitiana hit from long range to extend the lead back to double digits by the end of the period.

UH protected its lead throughout the fourth, never allowing The Beach closer than 13.

    Great win Wahine! Good luck in the finals. Looks like Riverside was looking past Davis and got ambushed. Kudos to Coach Beeman and the Whine for keeping their focus on LGSU and getting the job done.

    Amazing how BM whipped out the story so fast after the game.

    UH has got the best game announcers and reporter up there.
