The Oahu Island Forum of the People’s Congress will gather from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 20 to advocate for social justice issues at the Unite-HERE Local 5 Union Hall, 1516 S. King St. Similar forums will be held on neighbor islands Oct. 19-27.
There will be food at the event and free Hawaii Alliance for Progressive Action T-shirts for the first 15 people to sign in.
“The People’s Congress is a series of events, gathering community members from across Hawaii who want to work together to build a more just and fair Hawaii,” a news release said. “From protecting our natural resources for future generations, to issues of homelessness, economic injustice, education and equal rights, we believe that if we come together to identify the barriers we face in common and illuminate the root causes of injustice we all face, that together we can be more powerful and effective.”

Keiki can learn how to swim at free classes
The Maui Department of Parks and Recreation says free learn-to-swim classes will be offered starting Monday through Nov. 26 at the Upcountry Pool, 90 Pukalani St.
Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and registration will begin Saturday at the pool. The six-week sessions include one class per week, with space limited to six children per class.
Level 1 classes are for children age 4 to 6; parent participation might be required. Level 2 classes are for children age 5 to 8. Children must be present at registration for swim assessment.
The classes will be held:
Level 1:
>> Mondays, 3 to 3:30 p.m.
>> Fridays, 3 to 3:30 p.m.
Level 2:
>> Wednesdays, 3 to 3:30 p.m.
>> Saturdays, 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Puhi Road work will close part of intersection
The east side of the Puhi Road/Leleiona Street intersection is closed for a concrete pour on Puhi Road.
The closure is expected to be completed by the end of this week, weather permitting, Kauai County officials said in a news release Monday.
Motorists wanting to access the Puhi subdivision will need to use the Nani Street/Kaumualii Highway intersection and allow extra time to get to their destinations.
