Police on Saturday arrested a 25-year-old man wanted in connection with last month’s fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man at Ala Moana Center.
Lance Bermudez was arrested at about 7:30 a.m. in the Kipapa Gulch area below Kamehameha Highway after SWAT officers with canines arrived at his location, police said. His bail was set at $503,407.
He was the second man wanted on suspicion of hindering prosecution in the first degree in connection with the Christmas Day shooting of Steve Feliciano. Bermudez had been indicted in the case and a $500,000 warrant was issued for his arrest.
Besides Bermudez, William K.C. Kan, 21, was charged with first-degree hindering prosecution. Kan was arrested Dec. 28 at his Punchbowl home and later released on $25,000 bail.
Bermudez and Kan allegedly threatened a witness to the shooting.
The alleged shooter, Dae Han Moon, who has been charged with second-degree murder and other offenses, turned himself in on Dec. 31. His bail was set at $2 million. Both Moon and Kan have pleaded not guilty.
Missing person described as distraught
Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding Richard Tappe, who was last seen on foot near the Kunawai Springs park in Liliha at about 9 p.m. Friday. Tappe, 20, is described as emotionally distraught and his family and friends are concerned for his safety and well-being, according to a news release. He is known to frequent the Liliha area.
He was last seen wearing a black shirt with a white triangle design, black basketball shorts and slippers. Tappe is 5’11” and 145 pounds with green eyes and long brown hair.

1 killed, 2 injured in Big Island crash
A 34-year-old woman died and a 66-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman were injured after a head-on collision on the Big Island.
The collision happened on Highway 11 just north of the 96 mile marker in Kailua-Kona at around 7:20 p.m. Friday, according to Big Island police.
The younger woman was found pinned on the driver’s side of a compact car. The man was pinned on the driver’s side of a mid-size truck and the older woman was found lying on the road. They were both taken to Kona Community Hospital.
Both vehicles sustained severe front-end damage. The cause of the collision is undetermined at this time.
Police closed Highway 11 in both directions until 1:48 a.m.
Hilo house destroyed by fire
A house in Hilo was destroyed in a fire Saturday morning.
No injuries were reported at the 2,000-square-foot home on Ohai Street, according to the Hawaii County Fire Department. Firefighters arrived around 8 a.m. to find flames emitting from every visible window and brought the fire under control around 9:15 a.m. The fire was extinguished at 12:30 p.m.
Damages are estimated at $250,000.
