More than 10,000 B-25 medium bombers were built for World War II, and by 1965, two remained in Hawaii. One B-25 can be found at the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island. The B-25 pictured here is not the one stolen by Ashdown.

STAR-ADVERTISER / 1965

On May 7, 1965, James Ashdown stole a B-25 bomber from Honolulu Airport and flew it to Waikiki, Hawaii Kai and Waipahu before returning to the airport. The drawing above appeared in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin in 1965, portraying the B-25 flying in and around Waikiki.
