You see it in people walking their pooches, where cars used to blow past on dusty, industrial-commercial-district streets. Kakaako is rapidly becoming more residential in character. There are all the condos popping up, of course. But nothing says house and home more than grocery stores, and there will soon be three in the area.
At the Ward Village end, the state’s largest Whole Foods will open. And Pohukaina Street will have the local health-food chain Down to Earth and the Asian-food market H Mart. Look for the dog leashes in one hand to be paired with the grocery totes in the other.
