The eastbound H-1 freeway is scheduled for closure between the Kalaeloa Boulevard overpass and the Wakea Street onramp in Kapolei during the overnight hours of 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. starting Sunday night through Wednesday morning, state officials said.
A full closure of the freeway is necessary to set and pour the overhead sign shaft in the H-1 median as part of the Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 2 project.
Motorists traveling on H-1 will be directed to Kalaeloa Boulevard via the Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor Off-Ramp (Exit 1A) and may continue on Kapolei Parkway, Kamokila Boulevard, Wakea Street and the Wakea Street onramp to return to the eastbound H-1 freeway. Electronic message boards will be posted to warn motorists of the closure, and special-duty police officers will be on site to assist with traffic control. Emergency vehicles, first responders and TheBus have been notified of the roadwork and will not be allowed through the work zone.
Other lane closures associated with the project include:
>> Left-lane closure on the H-1 freeway in both directions between the Wakea Street onramp and the Kualakai Parkway underpass from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for work on the median.
>> Lane closure on Farrington Highway between Kalaeloa Boulevard and Wakea Street from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for traffic barrier work. Traffic will be contra-flowed.
The state Department of Transportation advises motorists to allow for extra travel time and check traffic apps before heading to their destinations. Roadwork is weather permitting.
