Schofield jail that once housed violent criminals turns 100

The 8th Military Police Brigade recently commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Schofield Barracks stockade. A total of 16 cells as of 1956 were pared down to eight remaining, with only a couple still usable as a lockup.

The Army celebrated the 100th anniversary of the stockade last month. The stockade was originally constructed in 1918 as the premiere military correctional facility in the Pacific.

Sgt. 1st Class Brian Hout shows the inside of a jail cell in the Schofield Barracks Stockade. During World War II the stockade housed as many as 450 prisoners at its peak. Only eight cells remain at the facility after a few renovations over the years.
