A 31-year-old motorcyclist has died after he collided with a vehicle in Waipahu on Wednesday night.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified him as Blake K. Nahinu. The cause of death is pending.
Police said a 65-year-old Waipahu woman was driving a vehicle eastbound on Waipahu Street and attempted to make a left turn onto Hoaeae Street at about 9:50 p.m. when she collided with the motorcyclist later identified as Nahinu.
He was reportedly speeding westbound on Waipahu Street without any headlights on at the time of the crash, according to police.
Police said Nahinu was thrown from his motorcycle and landed on an unoccupied, parked vehicle.
He sustained injuries to his head, arms and legs and was taken in critical condition to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said speed was a factor in the crash. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, according to police.
This is the year’s 62nd traffic-related fatality on Oahu, compared with 46 at the same time last year.
