Beachgoers swam at Waimea Bay early Friday.

The state Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch has issued a brown water advisory for Waimea Bay.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools and sewer manholes and contamination from animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and other flood debris.

While not all coastal areas may be affected, if the water is brown, stay out, the advisory stated.
