There is an increasing number of local rum makers growing their own sugar cane to make the spirit. Jason Brand, above, and Robert Dawson co-founded Manu­lele Distillers, a farm and distillery that makes KoHana Hawaiian Agricole Rum. Brand pours a clear rum in Del Monte’s former general store, which the firm is turning into a tasting room and retail store.
