“Andromeda,” a series of paintings inspired by cosmological images, feature a paper lei and an ocean surface rendered in all the colors of interstellar dust. The point of view could be that of a diver, a boater, or one who is drowning. The works are part of “End of the Rainbow,” an exhibit of works by Lawrence Seward.

“Fountain” is made of laminated wood but appears to be carved from a single block. The style is similar to Seward’s smaller masks, but at this scale, his dry humor is amplified, as is the sadness that haunts the piece.

“The Humuhumunukunukuapua‘a” was made in collaboration with a famous custom coffin maker from Ghana named Paa Joe. The deceased rest in elaborate symbols of what they loved most in life.
