Pared-down Akaka Bill passes U.S. Senate committee

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, chaired by Hawaii Sen. Daniel Akaka, on Thursday advanced Akaka’s namesake bill, which would provide for federal recognition of Native Hawaiians. There were two dissentions in the voice vote.
