HILO >> An alarm and an untimely fall tripped up a burglary suspect in Hilo.
Officers responding to a burglary alarm on Kukuau Street chased, caught and arrested a 25-year-old man as he ran from the home and fell in a neighbor’s yard. The arrest occurred just after 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Hawaii County Police recovered two television remotes and a TV power cord near where the suspect fell. Investigating detectives recovered a television set.
Authorities charged Colin Kerrigan, who is homeless, with first-degree burglary and third-degree theft Friday. He was being held on $5,500 bail pending a court appearance Monday.
Animal control hunt planned
LIHUE >> The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is organizing an animal control hunt in Pu‘u Ka Pele Forest Reserve on Kauai as a means to protect the “newly out-planted koa trees” in a previously burned and logged area, according to a news release.
The animal control effort will run for two months, starting Feb. 8. Prospective hunters must attend a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the State Office Building, 3060 Eiwa St. in Lihue. Due to state facility rules, the building will be locked once the meeting starts.
The designated areas for this control hunt will be Polihale Ridge (Trail 4) and Hikimoe Ridge. Hunting times will be from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays and nonholidays. Hunting nights will be designated through a lottery system. For more information, call 274-3433.
