3 visitors rescued in separate incidents on Kauai

Three visitors were rescued in separate hiking incidents on Kauai on Saturday, police said.

A 57-year-old man from Soquel, Calif. was injured Friday night on the Kalalau Trail near Hanakoa.  A hiker called police around 7:22 p.m. after hiking out of Kalalau Valley.

The injured man and his family spent the night on the trail. Rescue crews airlifted the man out of the valley around 7:11 a.m. Saturday and landed at the Princeville Airport.

The man denied further assistance from Hanalei firefighters.

At 9:53 a.m., rescue crews responded to a 51-year-old San Diego woman who was injured on a kayak tour.

The woman slid down a 10-foot embankment and into the Wailua River.  She was airlifted out and and landed across of the Opaekaa Falls parking lot.  She was then transported to Wilcox Hospital.

About 1:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a 51-year-old woman from Tempe, Ariz. who had injured her left ankle after slipping while bicycling along the Kuliau Trail in the Wailua Homesteads.

A stokes litter with a wheel was used to bring the woman out to the Kuliau Trail parking lot, officials said.
