The final round of Sony Open in Hawaii drew the event’s largest TV audience since 2006, NBC Universal said Friday.
An average of 640,000 viewers watched Sunday’s finale on NBC despite going head-to-head with NFL conference championship games.
Sunday’s round, where Jimmy Walker won his second consecutive Sony title, was the first time NBC has shown the event.
The three previous rounds were on The Golf Channel.
Saturday’s third round was the best third-round showing for the Sony on The Golf Channel, NBC said.
With 49.8 million viewers, Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, in which Seattle defeated Green Bay, was the most-watched television program in the country since last year’s Super Bowl, Fox said.
