McKinley students, staff to get tuberculosis tests

About 200 students and staff members at McKinley High School will be tested for tuberculosis today due to possible exposure from a student who was diagnosed with active TB, the state Department of Health said.

The student with active TB was taken out of school and is receiving treatment, officials said. Parents of all students were notified by letter from the school administration, and information sessions were held late last week, the Health Department said yesterday.

The affected student is doing well, said Dr. Richard Brostrom, chief of the Health Department’s Tuberculosis Control Branch.

The Health Department will be testing only students and staff who shared the same classroom as the ill student.
