Police arrested another 14-year-old boy Wednesday in connection with a shooting at Highlands Intermediate School last month and appear to have wrapped up the case that involved a stolen gun.

Officers arrested the boy after his father brought him in for questioning. The teenager was booked on suspicion of first-degree theft and a firearm charge, then released pending investigation.

Detectives believe the boy, who was a freshman at Pearl City High School this past year, stole the .45-caliber Glock from his father around Christmas time. He is believed to have sold it to a 16-year-old boy, a former classmate at Highlands Intermediate.

The older boy, who was not attending any school in late spring, sold the gun to the 14-year-old Highlands boy who was holding the semiautomatic pistol when it discharged on May 23, police said.

The bullet hit a wall that sent out fragments, which injured another 14-year-old boy.

Police have said the man who owned the gun told officers the handgun was missing, but he had not reported it.

Detectives have turned the case over to prosecutors. Detectives previously arrested the two other boys and released them pending investigation.
