Driver hits man, then crashes bank
An 84-year-old woman drove onto a sidewalk Friday and hit a pedestrian in front of the First Hawaiian Bank in Liliha, police said.
The woman was leaving the Liliha Square Shopping Center’s parking lot at about 11:30 a.m. when she lost control of her vehicle, crossed Liliha Street and drove onto the sidewalk, hitting a man, police said. The car stopped on the stairs of the bank at 1420 Liliha St.
Paramedics took the man, 55, to the hospital in serious condition, an Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman said. The driver, who had minor injuries, was also taken to the hospital.
Brandt Farias, marketing director for First Hawaiian, said the car knocked off a handrail and then went through the front glass, breaking three panes. Some ceramic tiles were also damaged. He said the glass was repaired before the end of the business day, and the bank remained open during its normal hours.
