One of the four inmates who escaped Sunday from the state’s low-security prison near Mililani was five months from being eligible for parole.
Jordan White, 20, was transferred to Waiawa Correctional Facility two years ago to complete a sentence for three felonies and would have been eligible for parole Nov. 20.
The other escapees had relatively short terms left as well. One was eligible for parole in 2012; the others, in 2013.
Now they face felony escape charges that could add up to 10 years to their sentences.
Waiawa Correctional Facility officials have begun an internal investigation to determine how the four inmates got out.
Joe Booker, Department of Public Safety deputy director, said the inmates, who were housed in the same building, were last seen at about 11:40 p.m. Saturday. They were discovered missing during the 1:10 a.m. bed check.
White is 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was convicted of three felonies, including robbery and driving a stolen car. His last known address is in the Kaneohe area.
The other escapees are:
» Elijah Keakahumoku, 28, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. His criminal record includes 11 felony convictions, including car auto theft and forgery. His last known address is in the Wahiawa area. He would have been eligible for parole in 2013.
» George Thomas, 24, 6 feet tall and 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He had felony convictions for promoting a dangerous drug, car theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. His last known address is in Kula, Maui. He would have been eligible for parole in 2013.
» David Carvalho Jr., 40, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 171 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has been convicted of 29 felonies, the latest in 2006 for burglary, forgery and several counts of theft. His last known address is in Kealakekua on Hawaii island. He would have been eligible for parole in 2012.
