Bombardier Transportation, one of two losing bidders for the city’s rail car contract, filed a request for an administrative hearing with state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
The request prolongs the procurement process for the rail car contract. Ansaldo Honolulu won the bid, with a $1.4 billion proposal. Sumitomo Corp. of America, another bidder, has said it will likely appeal as well.
Last week, the city denied bid protests from Bombardier and Sumitomo. Sumitomo officials have until today to file for a hearing.
Andrew Robbins, Bombardier’s vice president, said the company is "confident that we will get an independent and fair hearing in front of an experienced and impartial administrative judge."
