Families open homes, hearts

    The Aloha Initiative, a program started by the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui, welcomed the first group of Japanese citizens who arrived Monday at Honolulu Airport to spend time in the islands following the devastation of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Sabina Funasaki, left, and Kepler Funasaki greeted Konosuke Maeda and his mother, Maya, with lei. Below, the Maedas made their way to a reception.
