Alpha Puppy takes Transpac lead
Alpha Puppy, a 35-footer from California, is the leader after the second day of the Transpacific Yacht Race race from San Pedro, Calif., to Honolulu.
Celerity, a 37-footer from Minnesota, and Bebe, a 43-footer from California, are following close behind Alpha Puppy.
The yachts had almost no wind during the first two days.
The race’s second start, with bigger and faster boats, is scheduled for Friday.
Expected day of arrival in Hawaii of the first of the 53 yachts entered is July 14 or 15, with boats expected to come in all the way through July 19.
This is the 46th running of the race that began in 1906.
Teams finish up at nationals
Ka Ulukoa finished 14th and Ku‘ikahi shared 15th overall in the 16 Open division Tuesday at the USA Volleyball Junior Boys National Championship in Minneapolis.
Ka Ulukoa defeated Ku‘ikahi 25-22, 25-23 in the semifinals of the bronze bracket. Ka Ulukoa then lost to Halcones de Torrimar of Puerto Rico 25-20, 18-25, 15-11 in the final of the bronze bracket.
The tournament concludes today with 17 Open and Club divisions.
