Lawmakers from 13 Western states are traveling to Hawaii next week for the Council of State Governments-WEST’s annual meeting.

More than 500 people are expected to attend the meeting at the Sheraton Waikiki from July 30 to Aug. 2.

The Council of State Governments-WEST is a nonpartisan organization that provides a forum for legislators to share ideas and network with other elected political leaders from the region.

Speakers at the conference include CNN’s Candy Crowley, Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Patrick Walsh and Futurist Joel Kotkin.

Hawaii lawmakers will discuss foreclosure legislation, economic development, health, invasive species and women in politics.

Hawaii House Finance Committee Chairman Marcus Oshiro is the chair of the council’s meeting. House Speaker Calvin Say, Senate President Shan Tsutsui and Sen. Brian Taniguchi are co-hosts.
