A 55-year-old man was in critical condition Sunday after his motorcycle crashed on the H-3 freeway.
Lowell Kim was riding his Harley-Davidson with the Pacific Knights around 11:33 a.m. when he and another rider in the group collided while trying to avoid debris in the road, his family said.
Both motorcycles were totaled, but the other rider was not injured, police said.
Without identifying Kim, ambulance personnel said the injured rider rear-ended the other rider and crashed. He was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.
The collision occurred in the Harano Tunnel and affected access to the H-3 freeway in the town-bound direction on the Kaneohe side. Police closed the right town-bound lane of the freeway for several hours as they investigated.
Kim works as a lead press operator for the Star-Advertiser in Kapolei.
