Allnutt, Walton finish first in 1.6-mile swim
Former University of Hawaii swimmer Steve Allnutt was the overall winner and Rebecca Walton the top female finisher in the JACO’s Chun’s Reef to Waimea Bay Swim on Saturday.
Allnutt finished the 1.6-mile course in 32 minutes, 4 seconds. Jason Hagi was second in 32:11 and Jacob Urbano third in 32:37 in the field of 669.
Walton, a 13-year-old member of Kamehameha Swim Club, crossed the line in 36:37. Lillybelle Deer was second in 38:09, with Jessie Watkins third in 38:21.
Saturday’s race was the third in the 21st North Shore Surf ‘n’ Swim Series. The series concludes with the Aug. 13 Jamba Juice North Shore Challenge, a 2.3-mile race from Ehukai Beach to Waimea Bay.
QB Club meeting features Reardon, Sigall
Honolulu Star-Advertiser columnist Dave Reardon and author Bob Sigall will be the featured speakers at Monday’s Honolulu Quarterback Club meeting at Maple Garden restaurant.
Reardon will talk about the latest in sports with emphasis on the University of Hawaii football team. He also will discuss his predictions for the eight football teams in the Western Athletic Conference.
Sigall has written three "Companies We Keep" books, which focus on sports in Hawaii.
Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., followed by the noon program. Cost is $15.
