Extras needed for movie starring Joaquin Phoenix
A second open casting call has been scheduled for today to search for background extras for the new Paul Thomas Anderson film starring Joaquin Phoenix that will shoot a scene on Oahu next week.
The filmmakers are looking for 100 to 150 Caucasian men to portray World War II soldiers from the American Midwest, but the emphasis is on thin and young, ages 18 to 25, said Hawaii casting agent Margaret Doversola.
The casting call will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Aloha Lounge at the Aloha Tower Marketplace. Candidates should bring a photograph but be prepared to have additional photographs taken that day.
Phoenix will be in Hawaii for the scene, which will tentatively be shot Aug. 12.
Although initially planned for the North Shore, the location was changed to the Leeward coast so the filmmakers can shoot a sunset, Doversola said. The extras, along with Phoenix, will be resting on a beach after a battle on an unnamed South Pacific island.
The scene is part of an unnamed movie that Anderson is directing in Los Angeles that stars Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman, Doversola said.
