Honolulu Coffee baristas earn top festival honors
Row Aczon, head barista trainer of Honolulu Coffee Co., finished first in the 2011 Coffee Fest Latte Art Competition at the Hilton Waikoloa Village early last month for the perfect execution of the “bleeding art” design.
Tony Luat, a top barista at Honolulu Coffee Co., took second place in the competition.
Baristas from Japan, Canada, California and Hawaii were rated on symmetry/balance, contrast, creativity, level of difficulty and speed in the first Coffee Fest competition held in Hawaii.

Class offers tips on fitting isle foods into healthy diet

Greenwell Farms excels in local coffee competition
Greenwell Farms once again won accolades in the Hawaii Coffee Association Statewide Cupping Competition last month.
The company captured first place in the Kona Division and second overall behind winner Rusty’s Hawaiian.
Twenty-seven coffee farms entered the Kona Division competition, and Greenwell Farms won by barely a point over Hawaiian Queen Coffee, Greenwell Farms President Tom Greenwell said in a release. Greenwell is the fourth generation in his family to manage the farm, which was started in rural Kona by English transplant Henry Nicholas Greenwell in 1850.
Taste of Life proceeds will help HIV/AIDS group
Hawaii island restaurateurs will be catering the Taste of Life benefit on Aug. 27 at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa.
The event raises funds for the Hawaii Island HIV/AIDS Foundation, which has provided care for more than 20 years to those in need on Hawaii island.
