UH fails to qualify as a ‘Reefer Madness’ school
Why wasn’t the University of Hawaii ranked as a "party school" in the Princeton Review hall of shame? Because it’s in Manoa, of course.
Naturally, students are skilled at making their party in any old place where there’s a kegger (after hours). But if a school aspires to attract attention for its social scene, a commuter campus nestled in a bedroom community doesn’t seem to cut it.
Princeton offers several different categories in its social matrix of colleges, actually. Among them, for you Animal House types: "Reefer Madness," "Lots of Hard Liquor," "Lots of Beer" and "Major Frat and Sorority Scene." The more angelic shoppers can check out the "Don’t Inhale," "Scotch and Soda, Hold the Scotch" and "Got Milk?" lists for their dream schools.
Gas prices are falling — everywhere else
Here’s the good news, courtesy of GasBuddy.com: Search results across the country are displaying a little green arrow with a cheerful "Prices Falling" notation — not surprising, given how the crude oil market has cratered.
Now, for the bummer: In Hawaii we’re still paying well above the national average. The U.S. as a whole was paying $3.625 per gallon for regular gas, at the end of the business day on Wednesday. Here? The Honolulu average is still edging over $4 a gallon.
All of this means that anyone who can save money on their automotive state fees before they go up had better take advantage of that, because you’ll be shelling out at the pump.
Oddly enough, one of the few places where prices have stabilized, according to the site, is Las Vegas, making gas one of the few safe bets there.
