The beating death of a homeless man waiting at a bus stop near Liliha Street has residents in the area worried about their safety.
"Here’s a guy who’s got nothing. I don’t understand the motive," said Benjamin Maher, owner of a nearby business.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested as a suspect but later released pending further investigation.
The latest report that police detectives are still looking for a suspect has residents and bus riders worried.
One man waiting at the bus stop where the attack took place said he gets nervous whenever a young man walks by.
"Anything random can just happen," he said.
Police are looking for a man in the beating death of 64-year-old John Abiley Jr. at a stop on North School Street on Aug. 5, a Friday. The beating occurred at 6:40 p.m.
Police said Abiley was sitting at a stop on School Street when a man approached him and punched and kicked him several times in the face and body. The man fled on foot west on North School Street after bystanders intervened, police said.
Police said it was unclear whether Abiley and assailant knew each other.
Abiley died Aug. 11 at a hospital.
The suspect was described as 20 to 30 years old, 160 pounds, 5 feet 6 inches tall, with short brown hair and possibly a tattoo on his left bicep. He was wearing a black T-shirt, dark cargo shorts and tennis shoes, police said.
