While it remains to be seen if they can collect a couple of victories, too, the University of Hawaii Warriors expect to realize $269,842 from their first football road trip of the 2011 season, officials said.

Much of the surplus — $95,000 — will come from remaining on the mainland rather than returning home between games, athletic director Jim Donovan said.

The Warriors open the season Sept. 3 against Colorado at Aloha Stadium and then play back-to-back nonconference road games at Washington (Sept. 10) and Nevada-Las Vegas (Sept. 17).

Associate athletic director Carl Clapp said UH has pegged costs at $280,158 and the Warriors are contracted to receive $550,000 in guarantees, $350,000 from Washington and $200,000 from UNLV.

The guarantees would likely be higher, Donovan said, except that both games are part of home-and-home series in which UH pays the Huskies and Rebels the same amounts when they play at Aloha Stadium. UW got $350,000 for its 2007 visit here and UNLV $200,000 for its 2010 trip.

Since UH joins UNLV in the Mountain West Conference in 2012, this is the last year the Warriors will receive a guarantee when appearing in Las Vegas. UH will pay UNLV approximately $150,000 in travel subsidies when the Rebels come to Aloha Stadium next year, a condition of MWC membership.

UH will not receive a subsidy when it returns to Las Vegas in ’13.

UH said it expects to spend approximately $502,010 in airfare for its six road games this season and travel more than 30,000 miles.
