CrimeStoppers and Honolulu police are asking for the public’s help in finding a young man sought as a suspect in a June 17 assault on a California man outside a Waikiki hotel.
Police said the assailant severely beat the visitor after offering to sell drugs to the victim and his friends.
The incident happened at about 1 a.m. as the victim and several friends were standing on the beach near the Outrigger Hotel, police said.
A young man approached the group, offered to sell them drugs and became enraged when they refused. The assailant struck the victim several times. The California man suffered a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain, police said.
Police opened a first-degree assault case.
The assailant was described as 18 to 20 years old, 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing 140 to 175 pounds. He had a goatee, a mustache and white gauges, or plugs, in both earlobes. He was wearing a black shirt and blue denim pants.
