Dolan, partner take seventh in kayak final
Kailua’s Ryan Dolan teamed with Atlanta’s Tim Hornsby to take seventh in the Men’s K2 200-meter C Final on Sunday at the ICF Sprint World Championships in Szeged, Hungary. Their time was 34.25, 1.17 seconds behind the winner.
This year’s World Championships and Pan American Games are the only two events Team USA can use to qualify boats for the London 2012 Olympic Games.No U.S. athletes qualified in Hungary, but only the U.S. Men’s K4 boat has been ruled out for London 2012.
Team USA, which bases its sprint kayaking team in Hawaii, is allowed to send 10 kayakers (six men and four women), as well as one canoe athlete to the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, Oct. 14-30.
Luke Michael, who is training here, was 27th in the K1 5,000m final, a non-Olympic event. His time was 23:11.83, 3:20.63 out of first.
Desoto wins longboard at Queen’s Beach
Makaha’s Duane Desoto won the Kicker Audio Presents Toes on the Nose Rabbit Kekai Longboard Classic at Queen’s Surf Beach in Waikiki.
The event was part of the Duke’s OceanFest.
Desoto, the reigning ASP world longboard champion, won $2,000.
Makaha’s Kamu Auwae finished second, Honolulu’s Scotty Fong Jr. was third and Honolulu’s Keegan Edwards placed fourth.
