BYUH volleyball opens with win
The Brigham Young University-Hawaii women’s volleyball team opened its season Friday with a three-game sweep of visiting Alaska-Anchorage, 25-21, 25-23, 25-17. The Seasiders picked up the win in the first game of the Hawaii-Alaska Challenge Tournament.
Senior outside hitter Losaline Pula and freshman Shih Ting Chen hammered 12 kills each; Chen also steadied the defense with 15 digs, followed by Pula’s 13.
The Seasiders will face Alaska-Fairbanks tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Laie.
Vulcans blow out Alaska-Fairbanks
Senior middle blocker Hillary Hurley slammed 25 kills as the University of Hawaii-Hilo women’s volleyball team defeated Alaska-Fairbanks, 25-14, 25-21, 25-13 at McCabe Gym yesterday.
The Preseason PacWest Player of the Year hit .444 and also picked up 12 digs in UH-Hilo’s first match of the Hawaii-Alaska Challenge Tournament.
The Vulcans take on Alaska-Anchorage today at 1 p.m. at McCabe Gym.
Hawaii Pacific falls to Alaska-Anchorage
The Hawaii Pacific University women’s volleyball team dropped a close match to Alaska-Anchorage, 25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19 last night at St. Andrew’s Priory gym.
Haley Doerfler and Sanoe Recca tallied 10 kills apiece for the Sea Warriors, while Kyra Pelayo racked up 22 digs.
Robyn Burton led the Seawolves with 17 kills.
HPU will play Alaska-Fairbanks today at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Priory gym.
Silverswords pull off thriller over Nanooks
Junior Whitney Viveiros put down 12 kills and 15 digs to lift the Chaminade women’s volleyball team past Alaska-Fairbanks in five sets, 15-25, 25-18, 25-11, 16-25, 15-12.
Crystal Powell added 11 kills for the Silverswords, while Kristy Inamasu posted 10 digs in the win.
Chaminade is set to play Alaska-Anchorage today at 7:30 p.m. at McCabe Gym.
