Chinese visitor’s body found off Hawaii Kai
A 70-year-old visitor from China died Saturday morning in waters off Hawaii Kai.
Police said the 70-year-old woman was found floating in the water after entering the ocean at about 8:40 a.m. Saturday near Hanauma Bay.
Lifeguards attempted to resuscitate her but were unsuccessful.
Police have classified the case as an unattended death. An autopsy is planned to determine the exact cause of the woman’s death.
Young boy critical after near-drowning
A 4-year-old boy was in critical condition Sunday after nearly drowning in a pool at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, emergency services officials said.
The near-drowning was reported at 3:20 p.m. and paramedics took the boy to an area hospital.
Fire crews put out blaze near Aloun Farms
Honolulu firefighters extinguished a stubborn 50- to 80-acre brush fire Sunday in Ewa near Aloun Farms, fire Capt. Robert Main said.
The fire was reported at 2:36 p.m. on the makai side of Farrington Highway, Main said. It was extinguished by 6 p.m.
No homes, other buildings or highways were threatened, Main said.
Injured man rescued near Pali Lookout
Rescue crews assisted a man who injured his leg Sunday while hiking alone near the Pali Lookout and was stuck on a ridge, fire Capt. Robert Main said.
The man, in his 20s, was stuck halfway up the ridgeline a half-mile east-southeast of the Pali Lookout, Main said.
Main said rescue personnel were able to coax the man down from the ridge and escort him to an area where he could be evacuated by helicopter.
The man was transferred to Emergency Medical Services in an unspecified condition.
