Don’t let Warriors get Buffaloed
Hawaii’s most famous sports team takes to the Aloha Stadium field Saturday with the hopes of all its fans riding high that this will be another high-scoring, game-winning season that will bring the University of Hawaii Warriors well-deserved national attention.
That might not pan out, of course; there are many variables at play, not the least of which is that the opponent tomorrow, the University of Colorado, is as formidable as its team name, the Buffaloes, suggests.
But never mind all that. The season is just starting, and our glass of hope is filled to the brim. Go Warriors!
And maybe a Heisman at the end of it all for QB Bryant Moniz?

It’s good news, of course, that Hawaii’s lower-than-average jobless rate fell even further this week, from 5.7 to 5.4 percent. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but that still only puts us at 15th place in the nation. We can do better, right?
The report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Bismarck, N.D., in the top seat of honor with only 3 percent unemployment, followed by neighboring Fargo with 3.7. We’re told that’s because of a boom in the state’s oil industry.
However, it’s hard to overlook a pattern: Rounding out the top five in the roster of 372 cities are other cold-weather sites — Sioux Falls and Rapid City in South Dakota, Lincoln in Nebraska. At the bottom are four from sunny California (Stockton, Merced, Yuba City and El Central), and Yuma, Ariz.
What’s up with that? Is it just too cold to sit still in workaholic Bismarck?
