Man, 71, dies after fall from tourist trolley
A 71-year-old Japanese visitor died from his injuries Monday night after falling off an E Noa Tours trolley near Ala Moana Center earlier in the day, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at 11:53 p.m. at the Queen’s Medical Center, according to traffic investigators.
Police said the man was standing next to the right-side exit at the middle of the vehicle as the trolley was leaving the shopping center at about 3:15 p.m. Monday.
When the 33-year-old trolley driver made a left turn onto Ala Moana Boulevard toward Waikiki, the man fell onto the roadway 520 feet west of Atkinson Drive, police said.
He suffered head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital in critical condition, police said.
Suspect arrested in Central Pacific heist
A 37-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with a robbery at the McCully branch of Central Pacific Bank earlier this month.
Police said the man, who is apparently homeless, was arrested by officers from the Crime Reduction Unit of the Honolulu patrol district in the parking lot of the Kaheka Street Don Quijote store at about 3:10 p.m. Monday.
Police believe he is the man who handed a teller a note and ran off with an undisclosed amount of money from the bank at McCully and South King streets at about 11:10 a.m. Sept. 8.
He is being held pending a charge of second-degree robbery.
Man held in robbery near Honolulu Zoo
A 26-year-old man with a mainland address was arrested after allegedly robbing a woman in Waikiki near Honolulu Zoo early Tuesday morning.
Police said the man approached the woman and apparently had a gun. No weapon was found when officers arrested him at Cartwright Road and Kapahulu Avenue, police said.
The suspect was being held pending a charge of first-degree robbery.

Pahoa man, 35, is suspected in assault attempt
Hawaii County police arrested a 35-year-old Pahoa man suspected of trying to kidnap and sexually assault a girl in a restroom at a Hilo public school Tuesday morning.
The suspect is a convicted felon whose criminal conviction record dates to 1995 for various crimes, including second-degree robbery, second-degree burglary and second-degree theft.
Police launched an intensive search for the assailant after the child escaped from the man at about 6:30 a.m. They issued a public appeal for help and said the assailant was last seen on Kapiolani Street heading in the direction of Haili Street.
He was described as in his 30s with a brown complexion, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 200 pounds with brown or black hair and no facial hair.
Shortly after issuing the appeal, police announced they had caught a suspect on Aupuni Street in Hilo. The suspect was booked for investigation of sexual assault and kidnapping. He was being held at the Hilo cellblock.
Motorcyclist dies in Wailuku crash
A 42-year-old Makawao man died Tuesday after he lost control of his 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and hit a pile of boulders in Wailuku.
Maui police said Sean West died at the scene of the crash at 5:02 a.m. at Waiale Road and East Waiko Road.
He was not wearing a helmet, police said.
It was Maui’s fourth motorcycle fatality and its 13th traffic death this year, compared with 10 traffic fatalities at the same time last year.
