Space is still available for Hawaii Ocean Awareness Training classes next month in Waikiki.
Classes are being offered by the University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, as well as other marine conservation organizations.
Experts will teach participants about sea turtles, humpback whales, coral reef ecology, marine life identification and water quality.
The classes will be taught by scientists and environmentalists, and are recommended for people who are employed or volunteer in marine education or recreation fields.
Thirty to 40 spaces are available for classes on Oct. 1, 8, 22 and 29 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. A $20 registration fee covers training materials, refreshments and parking.
Advance registration is required. For more information or to register, go to www.oceanawarehawaii.org.
