Hawaii senior outside hitter Kanani Danielson was named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Wahine to two road victories while also reaching a school milestone.
In UH’s 25-21, 25-19, 17-25, 25-21 victory over Idaho on Thursday, Danielson became just the seventh player in the program’s history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs for a career. The three-time All-American out of Kamehameha finished with 24 kills and 10 digs against Idaho. Danielson joined the 1,000-1,000 club that has three national players of the year in Kim Willoughby, Teee Williams and Suzanne Eagye, two All-Americans in Lily Kahumoku and Tita Ahuna, and Jessica Sudduth.
On Saturday against Utah State, Danielson had another double-double with 19 kills and 11 digs in a 21-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 Hawaii win.
It is Danielson’s second honor this season and the 10th of her career.
Hawaii (12-1 overall, 2-0 WAC) returns home to play Nevada on Thursday and Fresno State on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
